There used to be a saying “You will know them by the friends that they keep.” Meaning, if someone spends a lot of time with lazy people, they are probably lazy themselves. If you hang out with criminals, you are probably a criminal yourself. There is a lot of wisdom in that saying, but I think this saying should be replaced with an updated saying: “You will know them by their apps.”
Instead of looking at your friends, look at your smart phone or tablet apps. What do you find there?
My Apps
For example, on my phone you would find these top-most used apps on my home screen: Facebook, LTF Mobile (the LifeTime Fitness app), 4 different Bible apps including You Version which is my favorite), Fandango (the movie app), B.iCycle (the bicycling app), TripAdvisor, Gmail, and WordPress.
This actually can tell you a lot about me. I like connecting with friends (facebook), I’m attentive to my health (Lifetime App)…or at least it means I’m probably paying for a membership I don’t use much, I like to read the Bible (Bible apps), I enjoy movies (Fandango), I like eating at good restaurants and value other people’s reviews/ratings (TripAdvisor), I’m an email addict (gmail), and I like to stay in contact with our website followers through the WordPress app. I think it also tells you that I’m pretty busy most of the time.
Your Apps
What about you? What do your apps or the apps of your friends tell you? Is Angry Birds or Words with Friends on your home screen? Or is it a Daily Horoscope app? How do you like to spend your time staring at your phone or tablet?
Have a conversation about this with your closest friend (or a friend that happens to be near you) and let me know what you discover about them that you didn’t already know. And if you don’t have a Bible app yet, hint-hint….go get one. 🙂
This is very interesting! Mine include facebook, Bible Gateway, and Candy Crush :/ So I apparently like to fellowship, worship, and crush candy!!! Seriously though, I did notice a few games that dominate my top used apps, and that does represent that part of me that escapes quite frequently throughout the day. I don’t think this is the end of the world, but it is a reminder that my priorities have to be checked every single morning…good thing His mercies are new every single morning as well!
