September 11, 2011 By R. Brad White 3 Comments

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc released the results of a Christianity Quiz, scoring how well Christians live the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The anonymous self-assessment presents 10 multiple choice questions to determine if you are “Far from Christ”, a “Worldly Christian”, a “Good Christian”, or a “Spiritually Mature Christian”.

The results are both hopeful and disturbing, as 1 in 4 self-proclaimed Christians admit they don’t live the teachings of Jesus Christ. Changing the Face of Christianity Inc, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is working to improve this situation through a convicting educational message and Christian maturity and transformation strategy.

Plano, TX – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc has released the results of a Christianity Quiz; an anonymous self-assessment scoring how well Christians live the teachings of Jesus Christ. E.g. The quiz answers the question: “How Christian Are You?”

Answer  10 multiple-choice questions and the quiz returns a score, indicating how well the person lives up to the Christian ideal as modeled by Jesus Christ. The results indicate if you are “Far from Christ”, a “Worldly Christian”, a “Good Christian”, or a “Spiritually Mature Christian”.

Over a 7 month period, from January 2011 through July 2011, Changing the Face of Christianity collected over 2,000 responses to their Christianity Quiz. Here is a summary of the results:

  • Far from Christ   4.6%
  • Worldly Christian   23.7%
  • Good Christian    39.0%
  • Spiritually Mature Christian   32.7%

See update to Quiz Results as of April 2012

R. Brad White, the founder of Changing the Face of Christianity Inc, a 501(c)3 non-profit, says “The results are both hopeful and disturbing, as 1 in 4 self-proclaimed Christians admit they rarely live the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to reverse negative Christian stereotypes by helping Christians become more like Jesus Christ. And so, our goal is to help transform these unChristians into spiritually mature Christians who walk the walk, and better represent our faith to the world.”

The quiz results show 32.7% of Christians are spiritually mature. R. Brad White says, “Our hope was increased and we were excited to see that almost 1/3 of Christians are consistently living their faith. These are spiritually mature Christians that represent Jesus Christ well through their words and actions. These Christians engage with the world in a positive and loving way and truly bring Glory to God.”

The quiz results show 39.0% of Christians are “Good” Christians.  R. Brad White says, “A significant majority of Christians consistently live their faith. In addition to the 32.7% of spiritually mature Christians out there, 39% of Christians take their faith seriously and are striving daily to live as good Christians. Yes, we are still human. We stumble. We fail. We make mistakes. We screw up. These Christians aren’t perfect, but are striving to consistently practice their faith. These Christians are at the tipping point and very close to becoming spiritually mature. This is incredibly promising to us.  But there is also a risk that many of them will go the other way. Our organization seeks to help move these folks into spiritual maturity.

The quiz results show 23.7% of Christians are worldly. R. Brad White says, “This means they are mostly Christian in name only.  When posed with a real world situation which tests their faith, they tend to do what the rest of the world does, instead of living as Jesus instructs. To be clear, these aren’t “bad” people.  However, they don’t tend to read their Bible or pray very often. The score results suggest they think much more about themselves, than they think about God and other people. These are people that you would probably be surprised to find are Christian, if it weren’t for the cross around their neck. These people are in the sweet spot of where we need to do our work. We are here to walk along side them, love them, educate them, mentor them, and guide them into living their faith through their words and actions.”

The quiz results show 4.6% of Christians are far from Christ. R. Brad White says, “Almost 5% of self-proclaimed Christians aren’t even trying to live as Christians. And these aren’t just brand new Christians who don’t know better. These are people who are often born into the faith who have never made a conscious, personal decision to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. They may call themselves Christian, but they are far from it. They likely aren’t part of a Christian community and don’t seek the accountability and growth that a Christian community offers. Or, they are just going through the motions. In their hearts , they are not in a relationship with God; the creator of the universe; Jesus Christ. Our challenge is finding these folks, connecting with them, and helping them get into the game.”

R. Brad White continues, “There are great organizations out there trying to win people to Christ, and we support them. However, our focus is on ensuring existing and new Christians are getting back to basics (loving others), identifying our failings and where we are falling short, and working toward Christian maturity.”

“We pray that God uses our Christianity Quiz as a catalyst and motivator of positive change and growth within our Christian faith.”, says R. Brad White.

Christianity Quiz Determines How Well Christians Reflect Teachings of Jesus Christ

February 15, 2011 By R. Brad White Leave a Comment

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc released a Christianity Quiz scoring how well you live the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Answer 10 multiple choice questions to determine if you are “Far from Christ”, a “Worldly Christian”, a “Good Christian”, or a “Spiritually Mature Christian”. Changing the Face of Christianity Inc aims to reverse negative Christian stereotypes and assists in the spiritual growth, maturity, and transformation of Christians.

Plano, TX (Vocus/PRWEB) February 15, 2011

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc has released a Christianity Quiz; a Quiz which seeks to answer the question, “How Christian Are You?”

The person taking the Christianity Quiz answers 10 questions and the quiz returns a score, indicating how well the person lives up to the Christian ideal as modeled by Jesus Christ. Answer 10 multiple choice questions to determine if you are “Far from Christ”, a “Worldly Christian”, a “Good Christian”, or a “Spiritually Mature Christian”.

“This score or “Christianity Index™” is not intended to pass judgment on anyone. Instead, self-proclaiming Christians are encouraged to use it as a gauge of how well they reflect Jesus Christ both internally and externally. We’re not testing Bible knowledge or theological understanding, but rather how well  you LIVE the Bible in our present day culture. We’re testing how the Christian responds in very practical and real-world scenarios.”, says R. Brad White, former Atheist and now devoted Christian, and Founder of Changing the Face of Christianity Inc.

The score results can be used to gain insight into how closely a Christian follows what the Bible teaches and the life Jesus Christ modeled. Expect insight into how your outward expressions as well as your internal thoughts and dialogue reflect the way of biblical Christianity.

For example, some “worldly Christians” may have Jesus Christ in their head, but not in their heart in how they talk with and interact with others. In other words, some Christians are Christian in name only.

“The results of the quiz can be eye opening, even for long-time Christians. Just going to church doesn’t make us good, mature, transformed Christians.  Jesus was a lover of people. How well do you love others? Jesus taught about forgiveness. How often and quickly do you forgive others? When our day to day lives are compared to the model set by Jesus Christ, it tends to shatter any sense of pride about how far we’ve grown as Christians. I hope it convicts a great many Christians to not just SAY they are Christian but to sincerely and authentically BE Christian.”, says R. Brad White.

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc believes that change starts with a willing spirit and an earnest commitment to seek Christ. So, the organization encourages people to make reading the Bible daily a priority. It seeks to help Christians become aware of how a Christian’s words and actions sometimes negatively impact those around us.

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc educates people on the negative Christian stereotypes that Christians create and then encourage Christians to replace that negative stereotype with a positive stereotype…consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Brad White.

Christian Nonprofit Announces MyConfession.org Campaign Targeting Christian Hypocrisy and Homophobia

January 25, 2011 By R. Brad White 10 Comments

Christians are perceived as hypocritical, homophobic, self-righteous, intolerant, and judgmental, and in most cases the description fits. Changing the Face of Christianity Inc is fighting to reverse those negative Christian stereotypes through its grassroots online and public “My Confession” campaign.

Plano, TX (Vocus/PRWEB) January 25, 2011

“Christians, despite their good intentions, give Christianity a bad name due to rampant Christian hypocrisy,  Christian intolerance, Christian judgmentalism, and Christian homophobia“, says R. Brad White, former Atheist and now devoted Christian, and Founder of Changing the Face of Christianity Inc.

We don’t do a very good job at loving our neighbor. That’s something we need to be transparent about, confess where we are failing to live up to the name of Jesus Christ, and then work toward maturity and Christ-like transformation. – R. Brad White

R. Brad White says, “The Bible tells us that non-believers will always hate us, but not for the reasons they hate us now. Who could hate someone for truly loving his or her neighbors as themselves? The fact is we don’t do a very good job at loving our neighbor. That’s something we need to be transparent about, confess where we are failing to live up to the name of Jesus Christ, and then work toward maturity and Christ-like transformation.”

A non-profit organization called Changing the Face of Christianity is working to reverse this pervasive image problem by helping Christians become more like Jesus Christ. “We are trying to help Christians actually change for the better. This begins by acknowledging we have a problem through heartfelt confession. We’ve launched ‘My Confession’; a campaign mobilizing Christians to make public confessions on post-it type notes and on our MyConfession.org website.” says R. Brad White.

R. Brad White continues, “The My Confession campaign is simple. We want people to share their confessions on our MyConfession.org website. We pray for these people that God will transform and heal them and their relationships. We are also encouraging people to write a brief confession on a small note, and place that note in a public area, such as a public restroom mirror, a gas station, a bank ATM machine, a drive through window, a Red Box type video rental unit, inside an elevator, at the water cooler, etc. Such public confessions encourage others to do the same. It gives others the strength to admit their own faults, and helps them lay down false pride in favor of humility. To make it easier for people, we’ve prepared a downloadable page of confession notes on our website for people to use. Simply download the PDF, print it, cut it into 6 notes, write your brief confession, and then share it in a public place. People have enjoyed taking a photo of their posted note, and then sharing their longer confession on our site and uploading the picture for others to see. The feedback we’ve received has been great. People are telling us after they shared what they are doing with their friends, that their friends are responding with affirmations like, ‘That’s so cool! That takes guts! How can I do it?'”

R. Brad White says, for example, “My Confession is I’ve allowed my religious convictions to make me numb to the human rights of gays and lesbians. I haven’t consciously fought AGAINST gay marriage, but I’ve allowed outspoken Christian political activists to limit the human rights of LGBTs (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) and let them speak FOR me through my silence. The Gay community deserves love, not discrimination. And for my part in that, I’m incredibly sorry.” So Brad’s note said “My confession is I’ve been a homophobic Christian. The gay community deserves love, not discrimination.”

R. Brad White continues, “There are great organizations out there trying to win people to Christ. We are focused on ensuring existing and new Christians are getting back to basics (loving others), and identifying our failings and working toward Christian maturity. Christian denominations address Christian confession in various ways, but the underlying truth is that confession is the beginning of humility. Through confession, we are inviting God into our hearts and minds and allowing Him to do His transforming work in our lives.”

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc has also released a Christianity Quiz; a Quiz which seeks to answer the question, “How Christian Are You?” R. Brad White says, “The person taking the quiz answers 10 questions and the quiz returns a score, indicating how well the person lives up to the Christian ideal as modeled by Jesus Christ.”

Christian Non-Profit Fighting to Save Christianity from Self-Destruction

December 31, 2010 By R. Brad White Leave a Comment

Christianity is self-destructing. Christians are leaving the religion because of rampant hypocrisy, intolerance, judgmentalism, and homophobia. Changing the Face of Christianity Inc is working to save Christianity from itself through a bold awareness and education campaign.

Plano, TX (Vocus/PRWEB) December 28, 2010

Christianity is under attack from the inside. Christians are leaving the religion because of Christian hypocrisy, Christian intolerance, Christian judgmentalism, and Christian homophobia. Instead of living their Christian faith genuinely in the world, defectors see superficial name-tag-only Christians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. Non-Christians don’t take them seriously, because they often don’t follow their own teaching and preaching, which endangers the effectiveness of Christian evangelism efforts.

Outsiders see blatant hypocrisy between Christian beliefs and actions. Non-believers see prideful and self-righteous Christians who act “better” than others and judge others with an attitude of arrogance and intolerance. Homosexuals and people in the gay community feel rejected and condemned as outcasts by the Christian church and its followers.

Many in the Christian church today pay little more than lip-service to worship or living a Christian life. The phrase “love your neighbor as yourself” is quickly becoming a phrase no longer associated with the Christian religion. A non-profit organization called Changing the Face of Christianity is working to save the Christian religion from self-destruction, by helping Christians become more like Jesus Christ.

Changing the Face of Christianity has launched a bold awareness and education campaign aimed at existing Christians. Its strategy is to expose the perceptions of non-Christians to those within the Christian faith and encourage and assist them to take personal action to reverse the negative stereotypes. Founder and President R. Brad White says, “The Bible tells us that non-believers will always hate us, but not for the reasons they hate us now. Who could hate someone for truly loving their neighbor as themselves? The fact is we don’t do a very good job at loving our neighbor.”

The mission of Changing the Face of Christianity is to reverse Christian intolerance, hypocrisy, homophobia, judgmentalism, and other negative Christian stereotypes, by helping Christians to be more like Jesus Christ. Brad says “If non-believers hated us for truly living our faith and for being the best lovers of people the world has ever known, then our campaign would end. We would joyfully accept the criticism.”

Non-believers despise Christianity for all the wrong reasons. But the problem goes deeper than what non-Christians think. There is a growing exodus within the church too, especially within the younger generations. Younger Christians raised to be more accepting of other people, other lifestyles, and other beliefs, are turned off by Christians who maintain attitudes of bigotry and intolerance. This exodus is even more convicting given the growing trend in churches today to appeal to younger generations with “feel good” messages and more contemporary and entertaining worship services. Brad says “It appears that younger generations want more authenticity and compassion than simply more entertainment.”

In the American Religious Identification Survey of more than 54 thousand respondents released in 2009, the number of people claiming no religious preference (“The Nones”) almost doubled from 1990 (8.2%) to 2008 (15%).

In the book unchristian, written by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons based on research from thousands of interviews by the respected Barna Research Group, Kinnaman concludes “The vast majority of outsiders [to the Christian faith]…are actually dechurched individuals.” This gives support to notion that people are leaving the faith, not simply refusing to join as new Christians.

In the book American Grace, researchers Robert Putnam and David Campbell found that “young Americans are dropping out of religion at an alarming rate of five to six times the historic rate (30 to 40 percent have no religion today, versus 5 to 10 percent a generation ago).”

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc performs ongoing independent research and engages in positive dialogue with atheists and agnostics to maintain an accurate pulse on Christian culture and those in greatest opposition to the Christian religion.

Here are a few “outsider” quotes about Christians from Changing the Face of Christianity interviews:

  • “I would never consider being a Christian, but I might consider not being so critical if more Christians were open and genuine and willing to actually talk about their beliefs.”
  • “If one was a faithful Christian in their personal life but was able to respect the freedoms of others, what objection could truly be lodged against them? No one cares what you believe, only how your beliefs affect the personal lives of others.”
  • “I enjoy cross dressing, it makes me feel good about my appearance. It is my right. However the value of that right is severally damaged when I am constantly under attack by members of various religious groups. Are you personally familiar with what it feels like to have people follow you around shouting rude things, throwing empty coffee cups at you, or cornering you with the intention of goading you into a fight?”
  • “My grandmother always tried to make me feel bad that my mom didn’t take my brothers and me to church. She would tell me that my mom was a bad person. My mom was raised constantly being told that she was a bad person. I’ve seen the emotional scars it left on my mother.”

Brad White says, “We could easily be confused or misunderstood as being anti-Christian because of how forcefully we discuss these tough issues. However, we also have a positive strategy. We also enjoy highlighting Christians doing good. When engaging with non-believers, we listen instead of preach. We are gracious instead of antagonistic. We are accepting and reasonable instead of intolerant and hysterical. We want to show non-believers that there are positive, like-minded Christians out there that really care about them instead of simply trying to convert them.”

Brad continues, “When we started, we knew we would encounter some opposition within the church and some confusion about our purpose. However, we’ve been overwhelmed and encouraged by the positive response. I continue to meet people who say ‘you are dead on, keep it up,’ and we keep discovering other complimentary ministries that are attacking the problem from different perspectives. I have incredible faith and hope for Christianity even as we enter a very dark time within our church.”

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc has also released a “Christian Face Quiz“. Answer 10 questions and the quiz will return a score, telling you how Christian you are.
